Review - M&S Gluten Free Black Forest Gateau
As an Easter present I was bought a Gluten Free Black forest Gateau from Marks and Spencers. I don't know how much it cost but it was a good size. I forgot to measure but about 7 -8 inches across I guess.
The cake was a good texture and a nice chocolate flavour. Not quite as strong as I'd like but a good basic chocolate cake. The cherry jam was on a par with most I have had in black forest gateau, which has always been my least favorate bit to be honest.
The topping was good to a soft fudgey icing.
I'd rate it about 8/10.. for a general gluten free cake possibly higher but as in the chocolate cake catagory has to go against Ryton's chocolate brownies it has a hard act to follow in the chocolate cake stakes. It is nice to see more companies doing good gluten free items though.

Short update
I gave birth to a lovely baby boy a week ago.. unsurprisingly I haven't had much time on line since !!
Both of us are doing well. He weighed 3.8kg (8lb 6) which is a much bigger baby than my first and is healthy and alert. The labour was very quick and that plus his head size meant I came out of it needing a few stitches but other than being a bit stiff and sore from that I am now much more mobile than I was. So far the SPD seems to have gone pretty much over night so even with broken sleep and settling into breastfeeding I feel a lot less restricted than I have done for several months.
Obviously cooking is still at a minimum but I am looking forward to getting back to some sense of normality in that regard soon.

Weekly menu 3rd to 7th March
Opps a bit late, I did have it mapped out and shopped for but then forgot to type it up!
Nothing hard to make as my due date is the 8th so wanted things the boys could do as well. Midwife thinks things are going well and is hopeful that I might go into labour sooner rather than later but I'm booked in for the 18th if nothing happens. Please keep your fingers crossed that she is right as if I have to be induced there is more likelihood of problems from having had a previous c-section and so forth.
Anyway on to the food. As it happens I'm using the food of the week, Cauliflower, more because we have several to use up than for any other reason though.
Monday
Cauliflower Cheese, with added potatoes as we had some pre-cooked ones that needed eating up and some bacon too.
Tuesday
Stew (possibly with curried cauliflower fritters if I'm feeling up to it,)
Wensday
Pasta and sauce
Thursday
Tomato and Egg
Friday
Fish fingers (or similar) and chips.

How the weekly menu went
I thought I'd do a quick run down of how well we did on following this week's menu.
Sunday was already eaten by the time I posted it so that happened.
Monday we ended up running around picking up a Suma order and so forth so in the end stopped for chips on the way home.
Tuesday we did have Thai curry though it was turkey not chicken and we had such a big pack of turkey pieces there was enough meat left for a second meal.
Wednesday became meatloaf, potatoes, broccoli and baby sweetcorn as mentioned in the last post and very good it was too.
Thursday I had a good lunch of cold meatloaf, and poached egg on toast but was feeling really queasy by the evening so the boys sorted themselves out.
Friday we used the rest of the turkey up and did a form of stirfry with rice noddles and nan bread as we found some pre-made GF ones.. the boys had normal ones.
So all in all not to bad a week.. I need to sort next week's menu to be do-able by anyone as I'm at the any day now Honest stage of pregnancy !
